Rene Nevarez, M.S., LMFT, LPCC, NCC

Owner/ Licensed Therapist, Licensed Clinical Counselor and Clinical Supervisor

Educational and Work History

I have over 10 years of experience counseling in the Sacramento area. I have lived in the Sacramento area since 2006. I have grown to love everything about Sacramento. In 2015, I graduated from Sacramento State's Counseling Education Masters program with a specialty in Marriage Family Therapy and Professional Clinical Counseling. During my graduate program I provided counseling services in the Sacramento State University Center for Counseling and Diagnostic Services as well as at a local K-8 school.

After graduation I was hired by a local Community Mental Health Agency, River Oak Center For Children. At this agency I provided counseling services to children ages 2-21, family counseling, and facilitated parenting groups through the Incredible Years Parenting program. It was at River Oak that I attained the 3000 clinical hours required before taking the California state licensing exam. In December 2017, I passed the California Licensing Exam and opened my own practice.

Since the opening of my practice I have focused on providing support to individuals and families throughout the region both in person and online. I have also grown my practice to include additional team members and clinicians in an effort to make mental health accessible. In this practice we employ licensed counselors and associate level clinicians and provide clinical supervision. This not only helps them obtain their clinical hours but provides continued education to promote the most current and up to date providers for our community.

Theoretical Framework

"The most precious gift we can offer others is our presence." I believe everyone deserves someone who is present, patient, open, non judgmental, and willing to listen and hear you. I am here to support you and to be present with you throughout your therapeutic journey. Overwhelming feelings can surface a different times in our lives, and needing support through those moments is not a sign of weakness but a sign of being human. If you are struggling with communication, not feeling heard, feeling stressed, not knowing what to do, feeling alone, or feeling exhausted by all the none stop thoughts in your head... I am here for you.

My approach toward therapy is goal oriented. I believe that therapy has a beginning, middle, and end. The beginning phase of therapy is focused on building coping skills and understanding. Change happens during the middle phase of therapy. The successful completion and end of therapy is when you have reached your goals and have developed healthy functioning and balance.

I have an eclectic and multidisciplinary framework and adapt to the needs of each individual client. I approach each client, family, and group uniquely because I know everyone is unique and has different needs and experiences. I take a person centered approach, combined with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focus and Mindfulness interventions.
