My Approach:

“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” -Carl Rogers

I believe that human beings are far more resilient than they often realize. With person-centered therapy at the heart of my approach, I see every client as the expert of their own story. Simply showing up to counseling is a sign of courage and a step towards self-compassion and commitment to growth. Growth can feel uncomfortable and challenging, but it is through that discomfort that we find meaning, purpose, and the ability to live in alignment with our values. I often draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which teaches us to relate to our thoughts and feelings with openness rather than resistance. Instead of pushing emotions away, we work together to understand them, clarify what matters most to you, and take steps that bring your actions closer to your values. In this process, discovering meaning becomes a powerful source of healing and hope.

The counselor’s role is to help expand a client’s perspective so they can see the full range of potential meaning in their lives. To do this ethically and effectively, I believe I must first widen my own viewpoint through multicultural counseling. I hold close the idea that “knowledge makes men gentle, just as ignorance hardens us.” I am committed to continually learning inside and outside of sessions about cultures, identities, and systems of privilege and oppression. My goal is to create a safe, inclusive space where your experiences are honored and where you feel seen, heard, challenged and respected.
